What moved the numbers

The changes behind the result

The actions we took on the account, and the impact each one had.

Showroom visits separated from quote requests

What we did. We removed map-direction taps as a bidding goal across the quote and estimate campaigns and moved showroom visits to their own local campaign, so bidding chases quotes and estimates rather than cheap clicks.

Impact. Cost per lead has held at AU$58, the same as the three months before, while leads per day rose 24% (16.6 to 20.5) on 22% more spend.

Budgets follow the converters

What we did. We reallocated budgets across the account to the campaigns producing leads, inside the same monthly cap.

Impact. Extra spend goes where it turns into quotes and estimates.

The challenge

The business sells gates and fencing through its own online store, with an online estimator and quote requests for larger and commercial jobs. Before we started, it was spending about AU$31,000 a month on Google Ads for around 340 leads, AU$92 each, and organic search brought in only about 2,400 visits a month.

What we did

  • Took over Google Ads in September 2023 and rebuilt tracking on online orders, every quote form, calls and the online fencing estimator
  • Shopping and Performance Max on the online store's product feed, so products show where buyers compare options
  • Search campaigns built around the core product terms buyers use, from slat fencing to side gates
  • Performance Max and Demand Gen by audience, to create demand before people search
  • Remarketing to bring researchers back when they are ready to quote
  • SEO from September 2024 on the product and category pages: keyword strategy, meta tags and content

The outcome

  • Return on ad spend up from 8.2x to 20.7x on lead value, the same months three years apart
  • 78% more leads from Google Ads than the same months in 2023, before we started, on 10% more ad spend
  • Cost per lead down 38%, from AU$92 to AU$57
  • Organic search visits up 48% on the same six months before SEO began, and still 23% higher in 2026
  • 639 leads in the last 30 days at AU$57 each, a 24.7x return on lead value
